Hello, I’m a Mac…and I’ve got a dirty secret.

There is a new(ish) push on to get major electronics companies to trace where they get their minerals from and to inform the public whether or not their laptops, mp3 players, cell phones etc. are ‘conflict free’. This, I think, is worth supporting. Check out the following links and articles to see what you can do.

there is no reason that apple, with the prices they charge, and who their demographic is that they should be selling anything but fair trade, eco friendly hippie machines that shoot love and flowers out of their disk drives 😀

Well Jobs says that they get all of their providers to sign papers saying they only source materials from legit mines. But at the same time he admits its hard to track because by the time it gets to someone like Apple it’s changed hands 6-7 times.

It will be interesting to see what happens with these changes coming up. Any American based company will be forced to provide information on whether or not they source materials from these sorts of places. At least it will be good to know.

I’ve recently been reading ‘the Story of Stuff’ which tackles some of these issues. Check it out, Turtle. I think you would find it very interesting.

  4. LOved it – I will go to the link and help out!
