so i once heard someone say that homeless people need shoes. this makes sense, and you don’t even really have to think about it. homeless people are without a home (hence home-less). this means they tend to be outdoors a lot, and do a good deal of walking. now if you’ve seen a homeless person recently then you may have noticed the crappy shoes on their feet. full of holes. ya. not very good for life on the streets.

i was always known as a “shoe-head”. a shoe-head by definition is a person that collects unique/limited shoes and is caught up in the neo-urban fashion scene. anyways, as a result of this, i have a good deal of rather expensive shoes. i *was* planning on giving these shoes away to some homeless folk. but then a young man said to me, “well why don’t you sell the shoes and then go out and buy a bunch of cheaper shoes. that way you can get shoes to like half of the people you would have originally.”

that’s good!

so that’s the plan. i’m selling most of my shoes. so if you’re interested then get in touch with me and don’t be afraid to bid high since the money will go towards *more* shoes for people that have none (however, please don’t buy my shoes if it’s feeding YOUR lust for more. if you NEED shoes, or know someone that does, then by all means, buy some of mine!). i invite you to join in and do the same. if you have more shoes than you need and they’re in good condition then give them away or sell them to buy shoes to give away.

the point here is not to give away what you have. but rather to be faithful as God calls us to care more about others than about ourselves. so rather than building up our material kingdom here on earth we ought to use what we have to bless others.

i havent fully worked this out. but i have a dear friend named paul who pastors 3 small church plants in downtown toronto. one of these churches (urban cornerstone church) is made up of about 400-500 homeless folk. so one saturday we shall take our shoes and go down and bless others. whos in?

peace.
